New Year's Affirmations

The New Year has started. Goodbye to 2023 and welcome to 2024!


People always like to look back on the previous year to see what they have achieved. While this can be a great way to see how far you’ve come, it might also leave you disappointed or feeling you haven’t done enough. Especially if you compare yourself to others. Then again, on social media people often don’t show the ‘ugly’ side or the struggles they have. This can easily lead to an idyllic but twisted image. But hey, everyone struggles and life isn’t always fun and rosy.

We’re here to say that if all you did in 2023 was try to survive and get through every day, that is enough. You did well. You survived and here you are in 2024.


Instead of making New Year’s resolutions with the risk of setting too high of a standard for yourself and fear of failing at your resolutions at the end of 2024, we’d like you to focus on something else: New Year’s Affirmations to tell yourself and perhaps others. Especially as queer people, it is often difficult to be yourself and feel yourself in an environment and society that isn’t built with you in mind. In a society that often actively excludes you.


So here are some of Paxsies New Year Affirmations to remind yourself of!

1. You are enough.

You don’t have to prove yourself to anybody else or even yourself.
We are happy you exist and are here with us.

 

2.Your gender identity is valid.

No matter how you identify, your gender identity is yours and yours alone. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. Only you can say what your gender means to you and how you like to experience and express it.

 

3. Your sexual orientation is valid.

Just like your gender identity, nobody else can define this for you. Don’t let others control or say how you should be attracted to or who you should be attracted to or not.

 

4. Your identity is not defined by suffering or oppression.

Being queer shouldn’t equal oppression or pain. While queerphobia, transphobia, etc. are real issues, they are not what should define us as queer people. We wish every queer person who reads this a place where they can be themselves, where they can freely experience gender euphoria and queer joy in themselves and with others.

 

5. You don’t have to have it all figured out.

It’s not always easy to understand yourself, who you are or what you want. Take your time, it’s not a race. Explore, experiment and hopefully enjoy the journey!

6. Be gentle with yourself.

This is easier said than done, but be gentle with yourself. Give yourself time to sit with your feelings and your thoughts. Give yourself time to heal. Give yourself time to grow and blossom. Recovery and healing don’t happen in a smooth straightforward line. There will be bumps, setbacks, and difficulties along the way. So be gentle and kind to yourself. 

 

So here is to a New Year. May it give you the courage to be your authentic self.

May it be gentler to you and your loved ones.
